Ralf Kowalsky (born March 22, 1962 in Elgersburg ; † November 14, 1990 near Chemnitz ) was a German athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) who set up some world bests in rail travel.

In 1981, Kowalsky was European Junior Champion in 10,000-meter track walking and GDR champion in 20-kilometer street walking . On March 28, 1982, Kowalsky improved the world record over 25,000 meters to 1:45:53 h and over 30,000 meters to 2:06:54 h on the track in East Berlin. The DVfL, the athletics federation of the GDR, did not report the performance to the world athletics federation. 1983 Kowalsky won again at the GDR championships over 20 kilometers and finished 14th at the world championships in Helsinki . On June 9, 1984, Kowalsky set a new world record in the 5000-meter run with 18: 42.66 minutes. In 1986, Kowalsky set a personal best on the 20-kilometer distance with 1:20:31 h, but was disqualified at the European Championships in Stuttgart.

Kowalsky started for TSC Berlin , with a height of 1.83 m, his competition weight was 64 kg. He was married to the middle distance athlete Katrin Wühn .

On November 14, 1990, Kowalsky was in Kreischa for a sports medical examination . On the way back in his car, he had a fatal accident near Chemnitz.
