Martin Toporek (born February 15, 1961 ) is a former Austrian walker and two-time Olympian (1980, 1984).

Career

Olympic Games 1980 and 1984

He competed twice at the Olympic Games in 20 km walking :
At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , he came in 21st and in 1984 in Los Angeles , 29th.

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1982 in Milan, he was third in the 5000 m walking.

In April 1986 he set an Austrian record of 1:25:32 h over 20 km of walking , which is still held today. (As of May 2017)

At the European Athletics Championships in Stuttgart 1986 he finished 16th over 20 km and 21st place over 50 km .

Doping 1996

In 1996 Martin Toporek tested positive for the substances methylephedrine , ephedrine and pseudoephedrine and was banned for three months.

His former wife Viera Toporek was also active as a long-distance and mountain runner.
