The 3000-meter run for women at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 26th and 28th, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .

The European champion was the Soviet runner Olga Bondarenko , who two days later also won the silver medal over 10,000 meters . Second place went to the Romanian Olympic champion from 1984 Maricica Puică , who had also finished second in the European Championship in 1982 . Bronze went to the Briton Yvonne Murray .
