Cornelia Bürki (born de Vos ; born October 3, 1953 in Humansdorp , Eastern Cape , South Africa ) is a former Swiss medium and long-distance runner . She is 47 times Swiss champion and has reached the finals of several international championships.

Career

Cornelia de Vos began her athletics career at the Hoërskool Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp. In 1973 she came to Switzerland and got married there.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow she was eleventh over 1500 meters for Switzerland , fifth over 3000 meters at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and tenth over 3000 meters at the 1988 Games in Seoul .

At the World Athletics Championships in 1987 , she was fourth over 1500 and 3000 m. At the European Championships in 1978 she was eighth over 1500 m and sixth over 3000 m and at the European Championships in 1986 eighth over 1500 and seventh over 3000 m.

She was among the top ten at the World Cross Country Championships four times . She was also successful in street races . She has won the Basel City Run five times, twice at the Zurich New Year 's Run , twice at the Swiss Women's Run and once at the Murten Run .

In 1978 she was voted Swiss Sportswoman of the Year . With a height of 1.60 m, her competition weight was 49 kg.

Today she works as a trainer for the Rapperswil-Jona athletics club , where she and Beat Wyss are responsible for a medium and long-distance training group. There she looks after the middle-distance runners Mario Bächtiger and Hugo Santacruz.
