Zurich New Year's Run
The Zurich New Year's Eve run is a people's and street run that takes place every year in mid-December in Zurich's old town . It is organized by the Zurich New Year's Eve Run TV Unterstrass . Organizing committee president was Bruno Lafranchi until his resignation for the 42nd Zurich New Year's Eve run on December 16, 2018 .
The largest mass sports event in Zurich attracts thousands of spectators and participants every year. With a total of 24,479 registrations for the Zurich New Year's Eve 2016, 21,556 runners started and ultimately 21,449 finishers, 2016 is the record year of the race. This broke the record of 2014 with 21,881 registrations. With these dimensions, the Zurich New Year's Eve run is the third largest run in Switzerland after the Grand Prix of Bern and the Geneva Course de l'Escalade .
Categories and route
Meanwhile, the Zurich New Year's Eve run offers young and old in 30 categories , including z. B. the categories families and children, school classes and sports clubs, boys, girls and you and he , a special kind of running experience.
For the popular runners, the distances range from 1.6 km to 9 km with additionally varying numbers of laps between the classes. Also part and at the same time a highlight of the categories of the Zurich New Year's Run is the female and male running elite, who start in separate races and overcome different distances or numbers of laps. The run starts on Limmatquai and ends in Fraumünsterstrasse. In view of the running spectacle through Zurich's old town, spectators and participants are offered a breathtaking view of the Limmatquai.
