Mark Rowland

Mark Rowland (born March 7, 1963 in Horsham ) is a former British long-distance runner who was particularly successful in the obstacle course .

Life

At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1987 in Indianapolis, he finished fourth in the 3000 meter run . He celebrated the most important success of his career a year later at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. In the obstacle course he won the bronze medal behind Julius Kariuki and Peter Koech . At the end of the season he won the Zurich New Year's Eve run .

Rowland narrowly missed winning the obstacle course title at the 1990 European Championships in Split. He stumbled at the last obstacle and had to let the Italian Francesco Panetta go. After that, persistent Achilles tendon problems prevented Rowland's further outstanding results. An exception was his fourth place at the European Championships in Helsinki in 1994 .

Mark Rowland is 1.83 m tall and had a competition weight of 68 kg. After the end of his active career, he took up a job as a track and field trainer.
