Leah Jemeli Malot

Leah Jemeli Malot (born June 7, 1972 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

In 1987 she won gold over 10,000 m at the Pan-African Games , but was eliminated in the preliminary stages of the World Athletics Championships in Rome . A decade later, after the birth of her first child, she began a career as a cross and road runner .

In her five participations in cross-country world championships , she won a medal every time with the Kenyan team (two gold, two silver and one bronze). Her best individual placements were a sixth place in 2000 and 2001.

She won the Basel City Run six times (1996–2000, 2002) and three times the Darmstadt City Run ( 1997, 1998, 2008), the Trier New Year 's Run ( 1997, 1999, 2001) and the Swiss Women's Run (2001–2003). She was also victorious in the night of Borgholzhausen (1997), the Kassel City Run (1998), the Dam tot Damloop (1998), the Grand Prix of Bern (2000), the Lucerne City Run (2002) and the Zurich New Year's Run (2004) . Her greatest success on the track during this time was winning the silver medal over 10,000 m at the 2002 African Athletics Championships .

After the birth of her second child, she switched to the marathon distance in 2008 and was seventh in the Düsseldorf marathon and sixth in the Frankfurt marathon . In 2009 a seventh place followed at the Paris Marathon .
