The men's 100-meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 26th and 27th, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .

The British Linford Christie became European champion . He won ahead of the GDR sprinter Steffen Bringmann . The Frenchman Bruno Marie-Rose won the bronze medal.

Semifinals

August 27, 1986, 6:45 p.m.

For the eligibility to participate in the finals, it was determined that the first four athletes from each of the two semi-finals would qualify for the finals. In the second semi-final, two sprinters placed fourth together at the same time. Both were admitted to the final, so that around an hour and a half later, nine participants contested the final. The runners who qualified from the two semi-finals are highlighted in light blue in the following overview of results.
