The 100-meter race of the men at the 2006 European Athletics Championships was to 8th August 2006 at 7 Ullevi stadium of the city of Gothenburg held.

European champion was the Portuguese defending champion and Olympic runner-up in 2004, Francis Obikwelu , who two days later also won the title over 200 meters . The Russian Andrei Jepishin took second place. Bronze went to the Slovenian Matic Osovnikar .

Record improvement

European champion Francis Obikwelu improved the existing EM record in the final on August 8th by five hundredths of a second to 9.99 seconds. He was the first runner to break the ten-second mark at European Championships. PortugalPortugal

Francis Obikwelu, who was subsequently declared European Champion 2002 in 2006 , did not have to give everything in any of the four races in order to still win each time with aplomb. In the finals he was the first runner to stay under ten seconds at the European Championships.
