The 10,000-meter race of the men at the 2006 European Athletics Championships was on August 8, 2006 at the Ullevi stadium of the city of Gothenburg held.

The Spaniards won two medals in this competition, silver and bronze. German Jan Fitschen became European champion . Defending champion José Manuel Martínez won the silver medal. Juan Carlos de la Ossa took third place.

The German runner Jan Fitschen surprisingly became European champion and relegated the favored Spaniards José Manuel Martínez and Juan Carlos de la Ossa to places two and three. The Swiss Christian Belz took fourth place. As a German runner, Fitschen even surpassed Dieter Baumann , who came second on this longest track at the last European Championships in Munich in 2002 and in Budapest in 1998 .
