The hammer throw women at the 2006 European Athletics Championships was on 7 and 8 August 2006 at the Ullevi stadium of the city of Gothenburg held.

In this competition there was a Russian double victory. European champion was the world record holder Tatjana Lyssenko . Second place went to Gulfija Chanafejewa , who was the world record holder for twelve days ahead of Tatjana Lysenko. The Polish Olympic Champion from 2000 and Vice European Champion from 2002 Kamila Skolimowska won the bronze medal.

qualification

Forty participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. This large number of athletes in this still young discipline hammer throw was very high, especially compared to the other throwing disciplines. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the finals was 70.00 m. Two athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eight next-placed throwers to twelve participants (highlighted in light green). So finally 66.81 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
