The women's hammer throw at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 7th and 9th, 2002 in Munich's Olympic Stadium.
The European champion was the Russian vice European champion in 1998 , Olympic runner-up in 2000 and the respective vice world champion in 1999 and 2001, Olga Kusenkowa . She won ahead of the Polish Olympic champion from 2000 Kamila Skolimowska . Bronze went to Manuela Montebrun from France .

qualification
August 7, 2002
44 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 66.00 m. Five athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the seven next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 63.38 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.

Silver medalist Kamila Skolimowska, in 2000 she was Olympic champion and in 2006 she was third in the European Championship - she died in 2009 of a pulmonary embolism
