Nikolaus von Westerholt

Nikolaus von Westerholt (also Niclas) (* around 1601 ; † 1662 ) was canon in Münster .

Life

Nikolaus von Westerholt was born the son of Chancellor Johann von Westerholt and his wife Etta von der Kulen. Her first marriage was to Bernhard von Westerholt . Nikolaus' brother Hermann (1602–1650) was Imperial Rittmeister and Drost in Bocholt. By receiving the tonsure on February 1, 1619 Nicholas was prepared for a spiritual life, and came into the possession of the May 25, 1626 Dompräbende of the late Canon Temmo of Bocholtz. This was followed by the revival of the Westerholt, Altenbochum, Kule and Bicken families. Nikolaus renounced his benefice on May 2, 1629 and married Anna on August 6, 1629von der Recke zu Steinfurt († 1661). The daughter Anna Elisabeth Sybilla (1630–1670) emerged from the marriage. She was married to her second cousin, Hermann Otto von Westerholt . In 1630, Nikolaus sold the Lembeck estate to Bernhard von Westerholt zu Hackfort († 1638) and in 1643 acquired the Westerholt estate from Nikolaus Vinzenz von Westerholt († 1667).
