The men's triple jump at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 6th and 8th, 2002 in the Munich Olympic Stadium.
European champion was the 2001 Swedish vice world champion Christian Olsson . He won ahead of the 1999 German world champion Charles Friedek . Bronze went to the British defending champion and world record holder Jonathan Edwards , who with, among others, an Olympic gold medal ( 2000 ), two World Cup -Titeln ( 1995 belongs / 2001) and numerous other medals the most successful three jumpers athletics history.

qualification
August 6, 2002
24 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 16.80 m. Four athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eight athletes placed next to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.48 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
