Robert Willis "Bob" Morey, Jr. (born August 23, 1936 in Cleveland , Ohio , United States - † January 18, 2019 ) was an American rower and Olympic champion , naval officer and finance broker.

Life

Morey was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1936 to Robert Willis and Elizabeth Brahm Morey; thereafter, the family settled in Short Hills ( New Jersey down), where he Pingry School visited. He learned riding and shooting skills with the Junior Essex Troop . He attended the Phillips Exeter Academy from 1954 , where he began to row. Morey was part of the Yale Bulldogs , the sports team at Yale University , and won the gold medal in rowing with the US team at the age of 20 at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne ( eighth ). William Becklean , Caldwell Esselstyn and Thomas Charlton survive from the victorious eighth . In 1958 he came to Yale University.

After graduating from Yale, Morey was employed as an ensign in the United States Navy and served as a navigator aboard the icebreaker USS Atka . After his military service, he graduated from Harvard Business School (MBA '62). He began a career in finance with the Brown Brothers Harriman . In New York City ( New York ) he met Maura Burke, with whom he was married for 50 years. They settled in Tiburon ( California down). 1984 Morey founded his own company drawing, RW Morey, Inc. , the pioneer in the market for reinsurance of health insurance was. He has served on the boards of directors of the San Francisco Opera , California Pacific Medical Center, and Coventry Health Care, Inc. He was a member of Rotary International and was a founding member of the Tiburon Sunset Rotary club.

He was born as a member of an Episcopal Church , later converted to the Roman Catholic Church and was active in the religious community. Morey belonged to the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and to the Sovereign Order of Malta as a knight.

Robert W. Morey Jr. left his wife Maura and his sister Louise Severance (Dick) from Stowe ( Vermont ). Robert and Maura had five children: Suzanne Morey from Pueblo ( Colorado ), Robert W. Morey III (Kristin) from Syracuse (New York), Jennifer Morey Sutter (Garrett) of Princeton (New Jersey), Alison Morey Garrett (Mark) from Mill Valley (California), and Edward Morey from Boston ( Massachusetts ). Morey had nine grandchildren.

For Robert Morey, who died on January 18, 2019 at the age of 82, a funeral mass was held on January 28, 2019 in St. Dominic Church in San Francisco .
