Eighteen participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 16.20 m. Since only nine athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.10 m was enough for the final.
