The men's triple jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1962 was held on September 12 and 13, 1962 in Belgrade's Partizan Stadium .

In this competition, two medals, silver and bronze, went to the Soviet Union. European champion was the Polish Olympic champion from 1960 , defending champion and world record holder Józef Szmidt . He won before the Olympic runner-up in 1960 Vladimir Goryayev . Bronze went to Oleg Fjodossejew .

qualification

With 14.94 m, Karl Thierfelder had no chance of participating in the finals

The 23 participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 15.50 m. Since only nine athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). In the end, 15.40 m was enough to take part in the finals.
