The women's javelin at the 1962 European Athletics Championships was held on September 13 and 14, 1962 in Belgrade's Partizan Stadium .
With gold and bronze there were two medals for the throwers from the USSR. The European champion was the 1960 Olympic champion and world record holder Elvīra Ozoliņa . The Romanian Maria Diaconescu won the silver medal. Bronze went to Alewtina Schastitko.

qualification
September 13, 1962
The fourteen participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 50.00 m. Since only five athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 45.17 m was enough for the final. Only two athletes were eliminated.
