Anneliese Gerhards

Anneliese Gerhards (born Jansen; born July 4, 1935 in Oedt , Kempen-Krefeld district ) is a former German athlete who took part in the Olympic Games three times by throwing a javelin .

Life

Gerhards began her sporting career in the neighboring Lobberich , first with Lobbericher SC 02 , then with TV Lobberich . In 1958 she reached the finals at the German Championships for the first time and finished fifth. By 1974 she reached the championship finals seventeen times in a row and won seven titles.

From 1960 to 1972, she competed in 30 competitions in the German national jersey. In 1960 she qualified for the all-German team at the Olympic Games in Rome , where she finished eleventh. Two years later she missed a medal in fourth place at the 1962 European Championships with 50.92 m by almost one meter. Gerhards was also there at the last appearance of an all-German team in Tokyo in 1964 and finished eighth with 52.37 m.

In April 1968 her husband, the all-rounder Heinz-Willy Gerhards, died. The trained sports teacher for TuS 04 Leverkusen started this year . After she won her seventh German championship title in 1971, she finished fifth at the European Championships in Helsinki with 55.98 m. In 1972 she set her personal best with 58.34 m, at the Olympic Games in Munich she reached ninth place with 55.84 m.
