The SC Union Nettetal (officially: Sportclub Union Nettetal 1996 eV ) is a sports club from Nettetal in the Viersen district . The first men's soccer team was promoted to the Oberliga Niederrhein in 2018 .

history

The association was created in 1996 through the merger of Lobbericher SC 02, founded in 1902, with Union Breyell, founded in 1908 . The SC Union has 900 members and, in addition to soccer, also offers badminton , running , cycling and tennis . The most successful predecessor club was the Lobbericher SC. This rose in 1994 to the association league Niederrhein . After a fifth place in the promotion season 1994/95, the team rose again a year later. Lobbericher SC produced a second division player in Wolfram Klein , while Karl Del'Haye, a former German national player, brought his career to a close in Lobberich. In addition, Anneliese Gerhards, a multiple German javelin champion , started for the Lobbericher SC.

The footballers of the SC Union started after the descent of the Lobbericher SC from the association league in the state league . After a runner-up in 1999 behind the Hülser SV , the Nettetaler rose to the Niederrhein Association League a year later. In 2004 the SC Union rose again. Back in the national league, the Nettetalers were runner-up behind the SV Straelen second team in 2008 and runner-up behind Sportfreunde Baumberg two years later . In the promotion round to the Association League 2010, the Unioner failed only because of the worse goal difference compared to 1. FC Bocholt . Two years later, the Nettetal were relegated to the district league, but managed to get promoted again directly.

After several years in the midfield of the regional league, SC Union came third behind TSV Meerbusch and SC Velbert in 2018 . Since no Lower Rhine team from the Regional League West descent were playoffs set the national league third parties for promotion to the Oberliga Niederrhein where the Nettetaler to the sports fans Niederwenigern met. The first leg in Niederwenigern was lost 0-1. The second leg in Nettetal ended 1-0 after extra time for the Unioners, so the decision had to be made on penalties . Here the Nettetaler prevailed 5: 4 and rose to the top division.
