Marco Ketelaer (born July 18, 1969 ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Life

The older brother of professional footballer Marcel Ketelaer went through the youth departments at Borussia Mönchengladbach from the age of six and won a West German championship, twice the Lower Rhine Championship and twice the Lower Rhine Cup in different age groups. As a 17-year-old, Ketelaer stood at Stefan Effenberg's side in the first DFB Junior Cup final. They lost 1: 2 to 1. FC Nürnberg. He then made the transition to the amateur team of the Bundesliga team at the age of 17. From 1987 to 1992 he played with the amateurs and was used in the international junior group.

After 16 years of club membership, he switched to the Rheydter Spielverein in the Oberliga (then the third highest division). From 1995 to 2001 engagements at Dülkener FC, TSV Kaldenkirchen , SC Union Nettetal and PSV Mönchengladbach followed.

In 2001, Ketelaer returned to the amateurs of Borussia Mönchengladbach as Holger Fach's assistant coach and played as a player in the cup games and was used once in the league in 2003. The engagement ended in 2004. In 2005 he took over the national league club Union Nettetal. From 2006 to 2009 he worked as an assistant coach at SC Kapellen-Erft and at 1. FC Mönchengladbach . During this time he completed his trainer training and graduated with the A license.

In 2009 he became assistant coach of the women's soccer team FCR 2001 Duisburg . In the first year you were DFB Cup winner and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League . After the club separated from head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg in February 2011 , Ketelaer took over the team as interim coach and led them again to the semi-finals of the Champions League. From the 2011/12 season on, Ketelaer took over the team as head coach. For a long time they played for the German championship and were in the DFB Cup semi-finals. There they failed unlucky on penalties at 1. FFC Frankfurt. Ketelaer looked after the team until October 2012 and then left for personal reasons.

For the 2015/16 season he was goalkeeping coach at Sportfreunde Baumberg . The Baumberger finished the season as champions and rose to the top division. Baumberg is establishing himself in the league and is playing for the championship title in the current 2017/18 season.

In 2017, Ketelaer acted as a trainer for the Borussia Mönchengladbach foal football school, both for the remedial courses and the holiday camps.

Since the beginning of 2018 he has been in the service of the Knappen Football School of FC Schalke 04. Focus on China with the project in Kunshan.

Since 1989 Ketelaer has been working in the administration of Mönchengladbach with a two-year break. In 2016 he reached 25 years of service.
