Marcel Ketelaer (born November 3, 1977 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Career
As a player
Marcel Ketelaer played for Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1982 to 2000 (youth, amateurs, professionals). In 1997 he signed his first professional contract. Ketelaer played the first Bundesliga game on May 11, 1996 (33rd matchday) against KFC Uerdingen 05 . Ketelaer came on in the 85th minute for Jörgen Pettersson . He moved in 2000 after ten goals in 30 games in the 1999/2000 season for an estimated 5.5 million DM from second division Borussia Mönchengladbach to Hamburger SV .
In the 2000/01 season he played six games in the Champions League and prepared two goals (one of them in the 4-4 "game of the century" against Juventus Turin ). In the following season he scored two goals against Hertha BSC at the premiere of Kurt Jara as coach on the 9th matchday . In the 2002/03 season he returned to his home club in Mönchengladbach, where he played 25 Bundesliga games and 8 appearances for the amateur team in the Oberliga Nordrhein .
After unsuccessful stints at 1. FC Nürnberg and LR Ahlen , where he made 14 appearances, he moved to FC Superfund Pasching in January 2006 . After the license transfer from Pasching to Klagenfurt to SK Austria Kärnten , he played six games in the southern Austrian state before moving to SK Rapid Vienna in 2008 . After several injuries and only 12 missions, his contract in Vienna was canceled. Ketelaer was looking for a club until January 2010, which he found with the Austrian regional league club FC Pasching .
Ketelaer played ten games for the German U-21 team and scored three goals.
As a trainer
After previously coaching the club's amateur team, Ketelaer and Yahya Genc coached FC Blau-Weiß Linz in the Austrian Regionalliga Mitte in the summer of 2013 . In May 2014 the non-renewal of the contract for the duo was announced. Shortly afterwards, Marcel Ketelaer was appointed assistant coach at league rivals SK Vorwärts Steyr. After the surprising separation from Helmut Kraft , he was promoted to head coach in Steyr in September 2014. After the end of the season, Ketelaer Vorwärts left Steyr.
From January 2017, Ketelaer was Jochen Fallmann's assistant trainer at SKN St. Pölten . After his resignation he became interim head coach until Oliver Lederer was appointed. In March 2018, Ketelaer became sports coordinator for the Lower Austrians.
After Dietmar Kühbauer switched to SK Rapid Wien , Ketelaer took over the interim position of head coach for one game in October 2018.
