Jochen Fallmann (born February 19, 1979 in St. Pölten ) is a former Austrian football player and now coach .

Career

society

Fallmann began his career in the youth team of ASV Radlberg before moving to the youth department of FC Admira Wacker in 1989 at the age of ten . Initially, his father drove him five times a week from St. Pölten, about 60 kilometers away, to the southern part of the city , before moving to Admira's boarding school in 1992. In the course of his training, he developed into one of the most hopeful talents in Austria at the time.

In the 1997/98 season he made his debut for Admira in the Bundesliga . The season was disastrous. The club, which had recently merged with VfB Mödling , started the season with a very outdated team that was studded with old stars like Andreas Ogris , Manfred Zsak or Arminas Narbekovas , who had already clearly exceeded their performance peak. In addition, Fallmann was also unable to meet the great expectations placed on him, which meant that at the end of the season, as bottom of the table, the club had to take the bitter step into the second Austrian division for the first time in 27 years .

The following season was similarly disappointing. Starting the season as a title favorite with the clear goal of immediate promotion, they clearly missed this with third place in the table and 15 points behind champions SW Bregenz . Fallmann was a regular player, but, in contrast to his appearances in the various youth selections of Austria in the club, he hardly knew how to convince. In the 1999/2000 season he then lost his regular place under coach Milan Miklavic and only made 4 season appearances until the winter break. As a logical consequence, in January 2000 he moved within the league to what was then the medium-sized company SV Austria Braunau .

There, with Alexander Schriebl and Gerhard Breitenberger, he met old friends from various youth national teams who had also failed at their home club ( SV Salzburg ) for the time being. Fallmann stabilized his form in the young Braunau team and became an important part of the team's midfield. In the 2000/01 season he played big at times and with seven goals this season achieved his best record to date. During the season the club slipped into bankruptcy and stopped playing during the winter break in order to be completely dissolved. Fallmann then moved to the traditional club LASK, which had just been relegated from the Bundesliga, free of charge .

Acted as a big promotion favorite, LASK had surprisingly landed in the relegation battle of the second division at that time. In the second half of the season they managed to avert relegation and landed with rank 5 in the secured midfield of the league. Fallmann played twelve games in the second half of the season without scoring a goal. This was followed by two inconspicuous seasons with LASK in the midfield of the league, which produced more negative than positive headlines. Fallmann, who at that time was already labeled "eternal talent" or "member of the lost generation" , rarely played outstandingly and was lost in the generally poor level of the team.

After his contract expired, he then moved to the Regionalliga Ost to his home club SKN St. Pölten . In his debut season he then formed a congenial midfield duo with Helmut Prenner at St. Pöltner, who had suffered several minor scandals in previous years . With the commitments of Markus Holemar and Markus "Magic" Aigner in the 2005/06 season , they had the strongest midfield in the league and just one point behind champions SC-ESV Parndorf , they failed to get promoted to the first division. The sales of Aigner and Prenner in the 2006/07 season forced the team to rebuild, which was carried out almost exclusively with players from the club-related AKA St. Pölten. The interim low with 5th place in the table was followed by promotion to the first division in the 2007/08 season . Fallmann, meanwhile matured into an integrative figure and captain, led the highly talented team with a 13 point lead to the championship title in the Regionalliga Ost.

In the 2008/09 season they advanced to the surprise team of the season and took part in the league's title fight for a long time. At the end of the season, they finished well in 5th place.

Fallmann is in possession of the UEFA A coaching license and has been looking after the U-12 youth team at SKN St. Pölten since autumn 2009.

In the summer of 2012 Fallmann moved to the first league club First Vienna FC in Döbling. After the 2012/13 season he ended his professional career.

After the end of his coaching engagement at St. Pölten, he moved to the fifth-class SC Herzogenburg in January 2018 .

National team

As a great talent, Fallmann went through all of Austria's youth teams up to U-21 . He came to about 50 youth international games.

Among other things, he was with players like Gernot Sick and Markus Kiesenebner in Austria's squad for the U-16 European Football Championship in 1995 . His last national team appearances to date were during the qualification for the U-21 European Championship in 2002 .

Coaching career

After retiring as a professional, Fallmann moved back to St. Pölten, where he became the national league team's coach with Thomas Nentwich . With the SKN St. Pölten Juniors he was promoted to the regional league in 2013/14. In March 2015 Fallmann was, again with Nentwich, interim coach of the professionals in the second division. After the end of the season he finally became assistant coach to the new coach Karl Daxbacher . In October 2016 he again became an interim trainer for SKN St. Pölten Juniors. In the same month, after Karl Daxbacher's dismissal, he took over the interim coaching post with Nentwich for the professional team, which is now playing in the Bundesliga.

In December 2016, he finally became the sole head coach. Fallmann resigned in September 2017, at the time the SKN was in last place.

In March 2019 he became the coach of the second division SKU Amstetten . For the 2020/21 season, Fallmann moved to the Bundesliga club FK Austria Wien , where he became Peter Stöger's assistant coach .
