Gernot Sick

Gernot Sick (born October 31, 1978 in Judenburg ) is a former Austrian soccer player and national player .

Career

Gernot Sick started his football career in Scheifling, Germany . In 1993 the young hopeful came into the youth squad of the Grazer AK . Already in the 1996/97 season , the midfielder under coach August Starek had his first appearances in the fighting team . Numerous other appearances in the championship, ÖFB-Pokal and UEFA-Cup followed.

In 2000 he was in the team of athletes who celebrated their second cup victory in the club's history against SV Austria Salzburg in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium . In the spring of the 2001/02 season he was awarded to SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz , but was brought back in the summer of 2002. In the 2003/04 season he won the first championship title in club history with the athletes . The double with the associated cup win is connected in a special way with Gernot Sick. On the way to the final he scored one goal in each of the eighth, quarter and semi-finals, twice (round of 16 versus FC Tirol Innsbruck , semi-final versus SV Ried ) it was the decisive winning goals .

In 2004 Sick was appointed to the Austrian national team for the first time by Hans Krankl after several appearances in various ÖFB youth teams and played in the European Championship qualifiers against England and Northern Ireland .

After the doctors diagnosed him with cartilage damage and a meniscus injury in his left knee in the winter of 2005, the Upper Styrian was operated on several times in 2006, during which he had cultivated cartilage inserted into his knee. After months of rehabilitation, Sick returned to team training in January 2007. During the following phase in spring, however, it becomes clear that both knee joints can no longer withstand the stresses experienced by professionals. As a result, Gernot Sick announced the end of his professional career in May 2007. In 2008 and 2009 he worked as a trainer at SV Gössendorf. For family reasons, he then finally retired from football.

In the fall of 2011 he brought his first football caberet program "The Round Truth" to the stage together with Hannes Toth and Gernot Zenz. The trio is called the Cabaret Association.

After a short complete football break, Gernot Sick was the youth leader of the GAK, helped found the youth sports club GAK-Juniors, before he turned back to the youth sports club JAZ GU-Süd (youth training center Graz-Umgebung-Süd), which with FC Red Bull Salzburg cooperates in youth football. Gernot Sick is a youth trainer there, his current assistant trainer is his friend and cabaret partner Hannes Toth .
