Deborah Colker (* 1961 (?) In Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian dancer and choreographer .

Life

Deborah Colker, daughter of a conductor, studied psychology and was a professional volleyball player for a short time . She is also considered an excellent concert pianist; she had piano lessons for twelve years and originally wanted to be a pianist.

At the age of 17 she began her professional dance training: classical, jazz and step. From 1980 on she danced, choreographed and taught for eight years with "Grupo Coringa". In 1984 she became a ballet master and worked for ten years with the most important directors and actors in Brazil in over 30 plays. For Werner Herzog's "Midsummer Night's Dream" she developed the movement direction, which in 1984 began her career as "Movement Director". Colker also choreographed music shows and video clips for the Front Commission of the Mangueira School of Samba from 1995 to 1997. In 1994 she founded the Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker .

Since 2001 she has performed regularly in Germany. Well-known pieces were Rota , Knots , 4 por 4 and 2002/2003 Ela and Casa for the Berlin Ballet of the Komische Oper Berlin. She was the choreographer in charge of the 2004 carnival parade of the "Front Commission of the Viradouro School of Samba".

On the occasion of the 2006 World Cup , she created the football choreography Maracanã , which includes typical scenes such as fouls and overhead kicks.

Colker has been honored with numerous international awards, including the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award given in London . The Münchner Abendzeitung awarded her the star of the week for the best performance in the German-speaking area for the "Tanzsommer" performance in Graz, Innsbruck and Speyer.
