Club team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A club team is a team that takes part in club competitions for a specific sports club.

definition

It is crucial for a club team that it is tied to a specific club that has to meet certain requirements. A sports club must observe the rules of the respective sports association , meet organizational and structural requirements and create conditions for fair sporting competition. For club teams, different prerequisites have to be met depending on the sport . In the past, a club team in German professional football was only allowed to have four players under contract who came from countries that are not part of UEFA . However, since the 2006/07 season this regulation has been suspended.

Designations

  • The first team of a club is commonly referred to as the top team . In general, however, the first men (or first women ) are usually referred to , regional terms such as league team (e.g. in northern Germany) or combat team (e.g. in Austria) are also used. In Switzerland, on the other hand, the term Fanion team is often used . The term is mainly used for soccer and ice hockey teams, but also for handball teams, gymnastics clubs and other sports associations. The origin of the word is unclear, but it can be assumed that it was derived from the French word fanion (= pennant, flag). In French, for example, one knows the term équipe fanion , i.e. the flagship or figurehead of a club.
  • The second team of a club is often simply called 2nd men (or 2nd women ). The terms second team , reserve team and, more rarely, amateur team are also used; The latter only if the first team has the status of a professional team. Further teams of a club are accordingly the 3rd men , 4th men , etc.
  • The first team of a club is usually not identified separately in tables and the media, but can be specified in more detail by adding a "1." or a Roman "I". Second teams often have a trailing “2.” or “II” after the club name, in professional clubs also “amateurs” - but if the second team is mainly used for youth work within the club, abbreviations such as “U23” or “U21” are often chosen . The other teams in a club are identified by “3.” / “III”, “4.” / “IV” etc.

organization

A club team is put together by those responsible for sports in a club (example: soccer manager , soccer coach ). Depending on the economic strength of the club, a more or less strong team can be put together by signing players from other clubs. This leads to extreme differences in quality between financially strong clubs and clubs that have less economic strength.

In contrast to the national team , a club team is put together taking into account the license conditions issued by the sports associations, regardless of nationality . A national team consists of players from one country, a club team consists of contractually bound players. The basis for putting together a club team are the license conditions of the sports association, the transfer regulations, the economic conditions of the club and of course the transfer market.
