Manfred Zsak (born December 22, 1964 in Mödling ) is a former Austrian national soccer player and current soccer coach. The defensive midfielder played 49 international matches, took part in the 1990 World Cup in Italy and won three consecutive championships with Vienna Austria . He looked after the U-21 national team as head coach. He then acted as assistant coach of the ÖFB national team, before he was replaced by Thomas Janeschitz and Fritz Schmid in November 2011 under the new team boss of the ÖFB, Marcel Koller ; he was offered a coaching position as U18 team boss.

Career

Manfred Zsak grew up in the southern part of the city at FC Admira / Wacker , where he also made his first division debut in the 1982/83 season . After a few games he was already a regular and established himself with his club in the midfield of the league. He bought his ticket for the national team on October 15, 1986 in a 3-0 win against Albania . Manfred Zsak soon became an integral part of the Austrian team, so that he was courted from different sides. Finally, in 1987, the then top team FK Austria Wien signed him .

Manfred Zsak was promoted to captain of the violets in 1989 after Herbert Prohaska's active career ended . This was followed by five title-rich years, in which the championship was won three times in a row from 1991 to 1993, just as often as Manfred Zsak won the ÖFB Cup these days with his team. Should it not work out with international success at club level, he could still take part with the national team in the 1990 World Cup in Italy. The midfielder was used in all games, but had to admit defeat with the team in the group stage.

Manfred Zsak, who had played almost all international matches from 1986 to 1993 - 49 in total - resigned from Vienna Austria two years after retiring from the national team in 1995. Ultimately, however, there was still a Bundesliga comeback at GAK in the 1996/97 season and in particular as a non-relegation aid for FC Linz . In total, he came to 408 first division games. After completing his UEFA professional license in 2004, he became the junior national coach of the U16s and then the U21s a year later. He had previously worked as a junior coach at Admira.
