Karl Daxbacher (born April 15, 1953 in St. Pölten ) is a former Austrian soccer player and today's coach .

Player career

In 1971 he was hired by FK Austria Wien from Statzendorf , where he was a member of one of the most successful Austria teams for 14 years. He won seven championship titles and four Austrian cups and was in the final of the 1978 European Cup Winners' Cup , which Austria lost to RSC Anderlecht 0: 4. Daxbacher was replaced in the 60th minute. In 1985 Daxbacher moved to Kremser SC , where he had to end his active career after one season for health reasons and switched to the office of coach.

Daxbacher played six times for Austria internationally . He made his debut on April 30, 1972 against Malta , which Austria won 4-0. His last international match was on June 23, 1976 against the Soviet Union , which was lost 2-1.

Coaching career

Daxbacher began his coaching career at ASV Statzendorf, where his playing career once began. Via Kremser SC , SV Würmla , SV Horn and SKN St. Pölten , he joined the Austria Amateurs in 2002 , which he led into the first division. After Daxbacher had been booted out of Austria, he switched to league competitor LASK , with whom he made promotion to the Bundesliga with players like Ivica Vastić, among others . After a year in the Bundesliga with LASK, Daxbacher moved back to FK Austria Wien for the 2008/2009 season . There he took over the scepter from Dietmar Constantini, who was only available for the last few weeks of the season as a replacement for Georg Zellhofer , who was on leave .

Daxbacher was on leave on December 21, 2011. After Wudi Müller in the 1970s, he was the longest responsible Austria coach in the last 40 years. Ivica Vastić was introduced as his successor.

On June 12, 2012, Daxbacher announced his return to LASK. After failing in the 2013 relegation, LASK managed to win the 2014 relegation. With the promotion to the first division , the contract with Karl Daxbacher was automatically extended for another year. In the 2014/15 season, thanks to numerous reinforcements, they were still well on their way to making their way into the Bundesliga in autumn. However, there was a weak start to spring and the relapse to third place in the table. After a loss to Mattersburg, the direct rival for promotion, the club management dismissed Daxbacher in March 2015.

In June 2015 he took over the second division team SKN St. Pölten as coach. With St. Pölten he was promoted to the Bundesliga in the 2015/16 season. The start in the upper house of the Austrian Bundesliga did not go according to plan. After 12 rounds, SKN St. Pölten was in 9th place with only 7 points and was in acute danger of relegation. After a 1: 5 home defeat against Red Bull Salzburg , those responsible took the consequences and put Daxbacher on leave at the end of October 2016.

In January 2017 he succeeded Thomas Grumser at the second division club FC Wacker Innsbruck . With Innsbruck he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2018. In March 2019, Innsbruck parted ways with Daxbacher, the Tyroleans were in tenth place in the table at that time.
