Indian Museum
The Indian Museum ( Bengali ভারতীয় সংগ্রহালয় Bhāratīẏa saṃgrahālaẏa ) is the largest museum in the Indian metropolis of Kolkata and - ahead of the National Museum New Delhi - the largest museum in the country. It has rare archaeological finds from different periods of Indian history. It also has an extensive collection of antiques, weapons, ornaments, fossils, skeletons, mummies and paintings. The museum is one of the oldest continuously existing museums in the world. The museum is managed by the Indian Ministry of Culture.

The museum is located on Park Street in central Kolkata across from the Maidan between Esplanade and Park Street metro stations .
history
The museum was founded in 1814 by the Danish botanist Nathaniel Wallich as part of the Asiatic Society near Calcutta, in Serampore . The present museum building was built in 1875
