execution

The five disciplines of the pentathlon took place over two days. The order of the exercises had changed since October 1961. The 80-meter hurdles - so far the first competition of the second day - now moved to the very beginning and pushed the shot put and the high jump back one position each. The second day began with the long jump - so far the final discipline - and at the end there was the 200-meter run - before the last exercise of the first day.
Day 1 - August 19: 80-meter hurdles , shot put , high jump
Day 2 - August 20: long jump , 200-meter run
The scoring was based on a points table valid from 1954.

For orientation and classification of the performances, the scores achieved for the heptathlon in 1980 according to the current rating system are also listed. However, nothing would have changed in terms of the placements. Of course, these comparisons are only indicative, because the different standards of the time must apply as a basis.
