Comment on the records:
Due to the replacement of the 80-meter hurdles discipline by the 100-meter hurdles since the beginning of 1969, the records started again. The European championship record mentioned above is actually not comparable in this series, as the associated competition was still held within the framework of the previously usual five disciplines.

Record improvement

European champion Liese Prokop presented with 5030 P - 4419 P after the vote in 1985 for the heptathlon - a new EM -record on. AustriaAustria

execution

The five disciplines of the pentathlon took place over two days. A change was made by adjusting the length of the hurdles. As in the international competition calendar for the individual disciplines, the previous 80-meter hurdles race has been replaced by the 100-meter hurdles race .

Time schedule
Day 1 - September 17th Day 2 - September 18th
100 m hurdles 10.40 a.m. Long jump 9.00 a.m.
Shot put 11.40 a.m. 200 m 11.30 a.m.
high jump 6.45 p.m.

The scoring was based on a point table valid from 1969.

For orientation and classification of the performances, the scores achieved for the heptathlon according to the current rating system from 1985 are listed for comparison . There would have been no changes had this newer rating system been applied. However, these comparisons are only indicative, because the different standards of the time must apply as a basis.
