Burglinde Pollak , married Grimm, (born June 10, 1951 in Alt-Plötzin ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - was one of the world's best pentathletes from the late 1960s to 1980 . She won bronze twice at Olympics.

Life

She won the gold medal in 1968 at the European Junior Games , the forerunner of the later European Junior Championships . At the European Championships the following year, she reached eighth place. At the European Championships in 1971 she won the silver medal. When she first took part in the Olympics , she came third in Munich in 1972.

At the 1975 European Cup

In 1974 Pollak was again vice European champion and at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal she won the bronze medal again. In 1978 she was second at the European Championships for the third time in a row . In Moscow, she came in sixth at the 1980 Olympic Games . In 1981 she tried to gain a foothold in the newly introduced heptathlon , but had difficulties with the new javelin throwing discipline .

Pollak did not win a major title, but improved the world record three times. She set her first world record in the GDR championships in the all-around competition in 1970 (5406 points) and after the introduction of a new point table in 1973 two more (4831 points, 4932 points).

Burglinde Pollak started for the ASK Potsdam and had a competition weight of 78 kg with a height of 1.80 m. In the documents on doping in the GDR that became public after the fall of the Wall , the name of Pollak was also found among the doped athletes.

After her active career, she became a physiotherapist and opened her own practice.
