The 3rd European Junior Games from 23rd to 25th August 1968 in the central stadium of the Sportforum in Leipzig ( GDR , today Federal Republic of Germany ) were the last with this name. They continued with the 1st European Junior Athletics Championships in the French city of Colombes , about ten kilometers northwest of Paris city ​​center in the Hauts-de-Seine department .

Athletes came from twelve countries: Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, GDR, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, the Soviet Union and Turkey. After the USSR invaded Czechoslovakia on August 21, 1968, the German Athletics Association (DLV) withdrew its team on August 22, 1968.
