The 14th Junior European Athletics Championships for athletes under 20 years of age ( U20 for short ) took place from July 24th to 27th, 1997 in the stadium in the Bežigrad district of Ljubljana / German: Laibach ( Slovenia ).
23 countries won medals and 33 achieved at least one of the top eight places.
