qualification

September 13, 1962

The fourteen participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 1.67 m. Since only four athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green), whereby the failed attempt rule also came into effect. So finally 1.61 m was enough for the final. It was clear from the start that only two athletes were eliminated.
