The women's javelin at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 6th and 8th, 2002 in the Munich Olympic Stadium.
The European champion was the Greek Olympic runner-up in 2000 , world champion in 1999 and runner-up in 2001, Mirela Manjani . The German Steffi Nerius won the silver medal. As four years earlier , bronze went to Mikaela Ingberg, who finished third in the Finnish World Cup in 1995 .

qualification
August 6, 2002
Twenty participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 61.00 m. One athlete exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eleven next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 55.20 m was enough for the final.
Claudia Coslovich, 1998 EM -Achte failed with 54.27 meters in the qualifying
