qualification

August 19, 1958, 3 p.m.

The sixteen participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 43.00 m. Fourteen athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue) and entered the final on the evening of the same day. Only two female throwers were eliminated - a qualification that is probably superfluous in this form.
