Seventeen participants competed in two groups for the joint qualification round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 55.00 m. Since only six athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So in the end, 52.90 m was enough for participation in the finals.
For all participants who reached the final, the qualification groups are given and listed here, for the five other high jumpers there is no group information.
