Nataša Urbančič (born November 25, 1945 in Celje ; † June 22, 2011 ibid) was a Yugoslav javelin thrower . Her greatest success was winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1974 .

life and career

Nataša Urbančič won her first Yugoslav championship in 1965 with a width of 49.61 meters. At the European Championships in 1966 , she qualified for the final with 49.74 meters, but had no valid attempt in the final battle. Two years later she reached the final at the 1968 Olympic Games ; with 55.42 meters she reached sixth place there. In 1969 Urbančič won her second Yugoslav national championship. At the European Championships in 1969 , she threw the spear to 55.68 meters, finishing fourth just under a meter behind the bronze medal.

From 1971 to 1974 she won four Yugoslav championship titles in a row. At the European Championships in 1971 , she finished tenth with 53.66 meters. In the following year she was again in the final at the Olympic Games in Munich and finished fifth with 59.06 meters. In 1973 Nataša Urbančič achieved the longest throw of her career with 62.12 meters. At the European Championships in Rome in 1974 she threw the javelin to 61.66 meters and won the bronze medal behind the two throwers Ruth Fuchs and Jacqueline Todten from the GDR.

Nataša Urbančič was 1.75 m tall and weighed 59 kg during her active time. From 1969 to 1974 she won the election for Sportswoman of the Year in the Yugoslav republic of Slovenia .
