Horst von Engerth

Horst Freiherr von Engerth (born June 13, 1914 in Marburg an der Drau ; † October 18, 2003 ) was a German-Austrian mechanical engineer and brewing scientist. He was rector of the Technical University of Munich and the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich.

Life

Freiherr von Engerth was born in 1914 as the son of Colonel Eduard von Engerth. He attended primary school in Salzburg and completed in 1931, the High School at the Bundesrealschule Salzburg . He then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich (graduate engineer, 1936). From 1936 to 1938 he worked as a designer in the automotive industry and then as a motor vehicle expert at TÜV . From 1938 to 1945 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . After returning from captivity , he initially worked at the Institute for Mechanical Engineering and Energy Management at the brewery. He studied brewing in Weihenstephan (graduate brewmaster 1948). In 1952 he was promoted to Dr. agr. PhD . He was a member of the Corps Makaria Munich and the Corps Frankonia Brno in Salzburg. In 1954 he became associate professor and from 1961 full professor for mechanical engineering and energy management at the brewery. In 1956/58 and 1965/66 he was Dean of the Faculty of Brewing at the Technical University of Munich. From 1968 to 1970 he was rector and from 1970 to 1972 prorector of the university. From 1970 to 1974 he chaired the Bavarian Rectors' Conference. In 1973 he became a member of the founding committee of the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. From 1974 to 1982 he was President of the Bundeswehr University. From 1970 to 1991 v. Engerth in the Bavarian Senate . During this time he was a member of the Finance and Budget Committee, the Cultural Policy Committee and the Main Committee. He was also a member of the Bavarian State Foundation . Von Engerth was married and had one daughter.
