Heinz Schmidtke (ergonomist)

Heinz Schmidtke (born August 6, 1925 in Goslar ; † December 11, 2013 ) was a German ergonomist . He was full professor for ergonomics and rector of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

Life

Schmidtke studied psychology and physics until 1949 and graduated from the TH Braunschweig with the dissertation flicker test and psychological fatigue as a Dr. rer. nat. from. He completed his habilitation on fatigue in 1960 in Kiel. After working for a year as head of a physical laboratory in the chemical industry, he was given a one-year visiting professorship at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1957 he became head of the "Psychological Working Group" at what was then the Max Planck Institute for Occupational Physiology in Dortmund. In 1962 he was appointed to the newly founded Institute for Work Psychology and Work Education at the Technical University of Munich , which later became the Chair of Ergonomics (LfE). His successor there was Heiner Bubb in 1993 .

His work, which can be found in practical design recommendations, was also known under the name "Munich Ergonomics".

Heinz Schmidtke died on December 11, 2013 at the age of 88.
