Fred Alsop
Fred Alsop (actually Frederick John Alsop; born October 20, 1938 in the London Borough of Newham ) is a former British three and long jumper .
At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he came twelfth in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump .
In 1962 he failed in qualifying in the triple jump of the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth he won bronze in the triple jump for England and was ninth in the long jump.
At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he was fourth in the triple jump and missed a bronze medal by eleven centimeters. In the long jump he was eliminated in the first round.
In 1966 he won bronze again in the triple jump at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston and was twelfth in the long jump. At the European Championships in Budapest , he finished twelfth in the triple jump.
At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he did not get beyond qualifying in the triple jump .
He was English champion five times in the triple jump (1960, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1967) and three times in the long jump (1960, 1963, 1965). In addition, he was three times in the triple jump (1965, 1967, 1968) and twice in the long jump (1962, 1965) English indoor champion.
