Giuseppe Gentile

Giuseppe Gentile (born September 4, 1943 in Rome ) is a former Italian athlete .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, the three-jumper set two world records with 17.10 meters in qualification on October 16 and 17.22 meters in the final on October 17. Nevertheless, he only won the bronze medal. It was surpassed by Viktor Saneyev with 17.39 meters and Nelson Prudêncio with 17.27 meters.

At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969 , he finished seventh with 16.03 meters. 1972 in Munich he could not qualify for the final with 16.04 meters.

At the European Indoor Games in 1966 he was fourth with 16.25 meters, at the first official European Indoor Championships in 1970 he was seventh with 16.12 meters.

Giuseppe Gentile was Italian long jump champion in 1968 and triple jump champion in 1965, 1966, 1968, 1970 and 1971.

His best performance in the triple jump was the 17.22 meters from Mexico City. In the long jump he reached 7.91 meters. Giuseppe Gentile is 1.90 m tall and weighed 83 kg when he was active.

In 1969 he took on the role of Jason at the side of Maria Callas one of the leading roles in Pier Paolo Pasolini's film Medea .
