Existing records
World record | 1:17:21 h | Jefferson Perez | World Cup Paris , France | August 23, 2003 |
European best time | 1:17:22 h | Francisco Javier Fernández | Turku , Finland | April 28, 2002 |
EM record | 1:18:45 h | Mikhail Shchennikov | EM in Helsinki , Finland | August 7, 1994 |
Note:
The previously existing practice of not keeping records in marathon running and street walking due to the different track conditions with the exception of championship records was no longer used from 2003 onwards. Since then there have also been official records in these road competitions. However, the fastest time of a European in 20 km walking had been achieved before 2003, so that this performance was not considered a record, but the best time.
The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.
execution
There was no preliminary round, all 19 walkers went to the final together.
