Ronald Pognon (born November 16, 1982 in Le Lamentin , Martinique ) is a French athlete.

Pognon was junior world champion in 2000 with the French 4 x 100 meter relay . At the 2001 European Junior Championships , Pognon won the 200-meter run . At the U23 European Championships in 2003 , he won the 100-meter run . At the 2004 Olympic Games , he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters.

In 2005 he finished second over 60 meters at the European Indoor Championships behind the Briton Jason Gardener . At the Open Air World Championships in Helsinki he was eliminated again in the semifinals over 100 meters. As a member of the French 4 x 100 meter relay, he won gold in Helsinki.

In 2005 Pognon set a European indoor record over 60 meters in Karlsruhe in 6.45 seconds, which was improved in 2009 by the British Dwain Chambers . Pognon ranks in a shared fifth place on the all-time world best list.

On July 5, 2005, he set a new French record in the 100-meter run in Lausanne and was the first French to stay below the 10-second limit with 9.99 seconds. He was only the fifth European to undercut this limit under regular wind conditions. He was therefore considered one of the great competitors of Francis Obikwelu at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg , but could not do it justice and was only fourth, while Obikwelu won the gold medal. With the French 4 x 100 meter relay he won the bronze medal on the final day of the European Championships.

At the European Indoor Championships in 2007 he won bronze over 60 meters. After that, Pognon fell into a low performance. At the Olympic Games in 2008 he was eliminated in the run-up, he was not set up for the relay. He also retired early at the 2009 World Championships , but he was again a member of the French relay, which reached eighth place. In 2010 he was sixth in the 60-meter run at the 2010 World Indoor Championships . At the European Championships in Barcelona he did not reach the final over 100 meters and was not nominated for the relay that won the gold medal.

In 2012, Pognon made it back into the French season. At the European Championships in Helsinki the French won the bronze medal and at the Olympic Games in London they finished fourth. Due to a positive doping test at Tyson Gay , the relay was subsequently awarded the bronze medal in May 2015.

At a height of 1.84 m, Pognon weighs 80 kg.
