The idol group Maneki Kecak was formed in 2015 after a singing competition and in its early days consisted of the five singers Miyuu Nakagawa, Rin Miyauchi, Reona Matsushita, Mayuka Fujisaki and Chiai Fujikawa . The group signed a record deal with Force Music in 2016 and released the singles Kimi wazurai / Mōsō sakura and Time Machine / SPLASH on the label , before the group moved to the Japanese division of Virgin Records . The single Dō demo ī ya / arikitarina kotoba de was released on this label .

In 2016, the group won with their single Kimi Wazurai at the Idol Music Grand Prix in the Local Idol Group / Indie category . In 2017, music journalist Marty Friedman named British classic rock one of the ten best Japanese rock bands.

On April 18, 2018, the group released their debut album with Kimi Wazurai on the Japanese major label Nippon Columbia . In July of the same year the Idol group played at the Japan Expo in Paris , France . In October the group, which had meanwhile shrunk to a quartet, performed in the Indonesian capital Jakarta . Furthermore, Maneki Kecak played two tours through Japan and appeared several times in the Nippon Budōkan . Various songs, including the single Kagami no Naku kara , was used as the title for the credits of the anime series GeGeGe no Kitarō . With Itsuka Dokoka de , the group also contributed a song for the credits for the anime series Okoshiyasu, Chitose-chan . Various publications reached entries in the official Japanese music charts, which are determined by Oricon .

On May 26, 2017, Fujisaki announced that she was leaving the group due to physical and mental problems. Chiai Fujikawa announced her departure in August a year later and left the group after a last concert at Nippon Budōkan in September to concentrate on her solo career as an idol. In the meantime, with Mio Fukase and Aoi Shinohara, two new members have joined the group. In December 2019 the second album was released under the title Aru wake nai no .
