Emel Dereli (born February 25, 1996 in Zonguldak ) is a Turkish shot putter and discus thrower .

Athletic career

Emel Dereli took part in the 2012 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul at the age of 16, but was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Junior World Championships in 2012 , she reached eighth place with 15.86 meters. In 2013 she set a new championship record with the 3 kilogram ball at the youth world championships with 20.14 m and secured the gold medal. A few weeks later she set a new national record of 18.04 m at the European Junior Championships in Rieti . She also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where she was eliminated in qualification. In 2014 she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships .

In 2015 she defended her title at the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna with another new national record of 18.40 m. At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , she won the bronze medal with 18.22 m. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she was eliminated in qualification. In 2017 she was eliminated from the qualification at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade . At the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , she did not live up to her role as a favorite and took fourth place with 17.45 m.
