The women's discus throw at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 6th and 8th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

With silver and bronze, the German discus throwers won two medals in this competition. The Croatian Olympic champion from 2012 , world champion from 2013 and runner-up world champion from 2015 Sandra Perković won her fourth European Championship title in a row . She won ahead of Julia Fischer . As at the European Championships two years ago, bronze went to Shanice Craft .

qualification

26 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was set a little too low at 58.00 m. With fifteen athletes who had exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), three throwers more than originally planned reached the final scheduled for the day after next.
