Shanice Craft (born May 15, 1993 in Mannheim ) is a German athlete who specializes in discus throwing and the shot put.

career path

Craft graduated from the Ludwig-Frank-Gymnasium , an elite sports school in Mannheim, in 2012 , and completed an apprenticeship with the Federal Police .

Athletic career

After numerous championship titles in the German school and youth sector and a bronze medal at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Bressanone , she won the gold medal in the discus throw at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 . Her winning distance of 55.49 m was both her personal and the U18 world best of the year at that time.

In 2011 she won the Junior European Championships in Tallinn with a personal best of 58.65 m.

In 2012, Craft won the gold medal in the shot put at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with a U20 world annual best of 17.15 m and five days later the silver medal in the discus, making her the most successful athlete on the German team.

In 2014 she won the bronze medal with the discus at the European Championships in Zurich .

In 2015 Craft set up an indoor world record with the discus at 62.07 m at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin and won the silver medal and the gold medal in the discus throw at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn in the shot put.

In 2016 Craft again won the bronze medal in the discus throw at the European Championships in Amsterdam . At the German Championships she took bronze in the discus throw (63.63 m) and came 4th in the shot put with 17.01 m.

In 2017 Craft took 4th place in the discus throw (61.43 m) at the German Championships .

In 2018 she became German champion in the discus throw for the second time (62.91 m).

In 2019 Craft won the European Winter Throwing Cup in Samorin with a team and in the discus throw with 59.79 m.

In 2020, on February 14th at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin , she once again set a new indoor world record with the discus with 64.03 m.

Club affiliations and trainers

The 1.84 m tall athlete starts for MTG Mannheim . On the way to the Olympic Games in Tokyo , Craft joined the training group of national coach René Sack in Halle (Saale) at the beginning of 2020 . Before that she had trained with the head national coach throw / push Marko Badura in Berlin. Further trainers were Sven Schwarz, Iris and Michael Manke-Reimers as well as Michael Hoffmann.
