The women's discus throw at the 1974 European Athletics Championships was held on September 6, 1974 in the Olympic Stadium in Rome .

The defending champion and Olympic champion of 1972 Faina Melnik from the USSR became European champion . She won Argentina Menis before the Romanian Olympic runner-up in 1972 . Bronze went to the GDR thrower Gabriele Hinzmann .
